A New Look for The Last Words Series

Shari J. Ryan • March 18, 2022

You may have heard me mention a new look and feel for the Last Words Series in my reader group on Facebook, but if not, this is what I posted last week:

This news is pretty big in my world, and I’ve debated how to share the information. I’ve been worried what you, my loyal readers, might think or say, and I’ve been very emotional over an incredible opportunity that comes along with a big change for me and some of my books.

The publisher I have been working with over the past year has acquired rights to Last Words, The Other Blue Sky, Unspoken Words, and Last One Home. The stories themselves will not be changing (which is the most important part to me). However, they are going to be giving the books new covers and titles while keeping the series name “Last Words” for the first three.

I made this decision after watching the expansive international reach the publisher has. As of right now, The Bookseller of Dachau is being translated into 8 different languages  across the world. For the opportunity to reach more readers, I’m thrilled with the acquisition and can’t wait to share the stories with even more people.

My hope is that you see this as an opportunity of growth, and nothing more. These books mean the world to me for so many reasons, and I’m grateful for the help Bookouture/Hachette is offering me to help them grow even more.

This changeover will be happening over the next couple of weeks, so I wanted to make sure I made a post about it now in case anyone wants to snag the original covers before they are changed. The titles will be changing at some point between tomorrow night and Friday, and the new covers will be up in the coming weeks.

Even after all of this, I still have more exciting news coming soon!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Most importantly, thank you for always supporting me with every move I make throughout this journey. It means more to me than I could ever put into words.

Xoxo

Shari

A new Historical Fiction novel called The family Behind the Walls by Shari J Ryan
By Shari J. Ryan January 27, 2025
The Family Behind the Walls: Absolutely heartbreaking and gripping World War Two fiction- My great-grandfather was murdered in a gas chamber upon arrival at Auschwitz. He died from Zyklon B poisoning. His body was thrown into a pile with countless others and taken to the crematorium, where all that remained of him was reduced to ash. Why? Because he was Jewish. A question has haunted me as I grew up and tried to piece together my family’s history: What was it all for? This question became the driving force behind my writing of The Family Behind the Walls. I wondered if, by the end of the story, I might find an answer. And I did.

My best friend disappeared twenty years ago. I thought she was dead. But today I’ve received a message that makes my heart stop. It says it’s from Izzy. And she’s blaming my new husband for her disappearance… I stare at the email in horror. I’ve only just managed to put what happened to Izzy behind me. My life is so different now. I have two perfect children, and the perfect husband at last. “I couldn’t just say nothing. You remember I was being stalked? My stalker is your husband. You're in danger. Run.” My blood turns to ice as I look up at my charming, caring husband. Is this some kind of joke? Griffin is kind, he's safe. But as he smiles at me, the doubt starts to creep in. The way he always asks me about my childhood, pressing for information about my friends. The way he always wants to know where I am… I thought my best friend was dead. I thought her stalker killed her. If the email isn’t really from Izzy, then who sent it—and what do they want from my family? But if it is, am I living with the man I’ve feared for twenty years? And if he can’t hurt Izzy, will he settle for me instead—or worse, my children…?
