A New Two-Book Deal with Bookouture!

Shari Ryan • May 14, 2021

I’m over the moon with excitement about this book deal with Bookouture !

I’ve be in awe of their work and authors, and I grateful for the opportunity to be apart of this amazing team.

I’m currently working on the first of two novels to be published, The Secret in the Attic . As much as I thought I already knew about the Holocaust, I have spent the last couple of months digging deep into research to make sure I write an accurate portrayal of true life in Germany during World War II, but with fictional characters. I’m already in love with this story, and though it is heavy on my heart at times, there’s something to be said about finding a way through darkness to appreciate the light.

As posted on Bookouture’s site:

We’re delighted to be welcoming self-published author Shari J. Ryan to Bookouture.

Associate Publisher Christina Demosthenous acquired World All Language rights for two World War Two historical novels by  USA Today  bestseller Shari, whose self-published hits include her  Last Words  series.

The first title in the contract,  The Secret in the Attic , tells the heartbreaking and gripping story of a girl in wartime Germany, who sacrifices everything to protect her childhood sweetheart. Years later, in modern-day America, a woman discovers that she has inherited a bookshop in Dachau – from the grandmother she had no idea existed… It will be published in October 2021, followed by another poignant World War Two tale in April 2022.

Christina said,

‘I feel so lucky that I am getting the chance to work with Shari. She is a supremely talented writer, with the ability to weave moving, beautiful and totally unforgettable novels. The Secret in the Attic promises to be a tearjerker, but it is also a story of hope, love and light in the very darkest of times. I can’t wait until publication in October – I know that readers, and her scores of fans, are going to adore it. I’m very excited!’

‘I am beyond excited for the opportunity to work with Bookouture on some new World War Two novels. Over the last couple of years, I have been in awe while watching the success of their authors, and I can’t wait to start this new chapter with such a talented team of professionals. Most importantly, I’m grateful for the chance to team up with Christina, an admirably accomplished editor who shares a similar passion for World War Two stories. She has been a tremendous inspiration throughout the planning of The Secret in the Attic.’

A new Historical Fiction novel called The family Behind the Walls by Shari J Ryan
By Shari J. Ryan January 27, 2025
The Family Behind the Walls: Absolutely heartbreaking and gripping World War Two fiction- My great-grandfather was murdered in a gas chamber upon arrival at Auschwitz. He died from Zyklon B poisoning. His body was thrown into a pile with countless others and taken to the crematorium, where all that remained of him was reduced to ash. Why? Because he was Jewish. A question has haunted me as I grew up and tried to piece together my family’s history: What was it all for? This question became the driving force behind my writing of The Family Behind the Walls. I wondered if, by the end of the story, I might find an answer. And I did.

My best friend disappeared twenty years ago. I thought she was dead. But today I’ve received a message that makes my heart stop. It says it’s from Izzy. And she’s blaming my new husband for her disappearance… I stare at the email in horror. I’ve only just managed to put what happened to Izzy behind me. My life is so different now. I have two perfect children, and the perfect husband at last. “I couldn’t just say nothing. You remember I was being stalked? My stalker is your husband. You're in danger. Run.” My blood turns to ice as I look up at my charming, caring husband. Is this some kind of joke? Griffin is kind, he's safe. But as he smiles at me, the doubt starts to creep in. The way he always asks me about my childhood, pressing for information about my friends. The way he always wants to know where I am… I thought my best friend was dead. I thought her stalker killed her. If the email isn’t really from Izzy, then who sent it—and what do they want from my family? But if it is, am I living with the man I’ve feared for twenty years? And if he can’t hurt Izzy, will he settle for me instead—or worse, my children…?
